The Sicilian way to keep away Dracula and the evil eye!

The best way is to use GARLIC!

Garlic, the famous AGLIO ROSSO from NUBIA. Red Garlic from Nubia.

Red garlic from Nubia in Northwestern Sicily.

When I was a child in Sicily  and had a tummy ache,  my mother would make me a garlic necklace and I would walk around the whole day with this precious necklace around my neck.

Trapani .... is it on the map?

Trapani is a port city on the North-Western coast of Sicily. It's located right at the left tip of the island. As you know Sicily has three tips .... the TRINACRIA.

The city is famous for its sea, wind and .... SALT, as you can see from the picture below. It is also known for its coral. As well as its food. In Trapani you can find rianata, a pizza typical of this area; the famous Pesto Trapanese; arancine, cassata, cannoli and so on.

I ran out of salt so I went straight to the Saline (the salt ponds).

Pesto Trapanese /Pesto Trapani Style

Put garlic and salt in a mortar and pestle and crush the garlic, add the basil leaves and mash into a paste. Add tomatoes cut into small pieces, mix everything together, then add olive oil.

You can use a blender. Blend garlic, sald and basil leaves. Then add tomatoes and blend to a thick sauce. Pour over short pasta, or spaghetti if you prefer.

The traditional Pesto Trapanese calls for almonds, but I prefer the pesto without the almonds.
