Do you feel like, in the words of Hank Williams, you’re wandering
aimlessly through life, just like a blind man you wander along full of worries
and fears? You go to work (if you are lucky enough to have a job, , you come home, go to sleep and wake up to another
boring day. Something is missing in your life, everything you do is meaningless.
You don’t feel fulfilled or motivated. Even going out with friends seems like a
waste of time. While everyone of them is drinking, talking and laughing, you
just sit there watching them, thinking about the shallowness of it all. Are
they really having fun or is the alcohol’s effect? Have you noticed by the way,
how quiet and reserved some people are before drinking, then right after the
first drink they suddenly become jovial and talkative? A transformation worthy
of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Alcohol is in fact the life purpose for many, it helps them cope with
the pressure, stress and problems of daily life so they literally cannot live
without drinking. They get addicted and it becomes a vicious circle, the more
they drink the more they want to drink. Not only does this lead to alcoholism,
but also to health problems, such as liver disease and brain cell damage.
Not an enviable purpose in life, is it? You don’t want to follow this
empty and shallow path so you keep searching for something satisfying and
self-fulfilling, something that would make living worthwhile, and that would
also provide you with a living.
You look around and you see people seemingly happy, cheerful, satisfied
with their lives. But are they really content or is it just an appearance? If
you got to know each one maybe you would find out that they too have
self-doubts, insecurities, fears, and problems. Maybe like you, they too are
struggling to find their purpose in life. Perhaps all they need is someone to
show them the way.
Then it hits you! Why not do something with people? Perhaps talk to
them, perhaps find out what’s worrying them, perhaps helping them improve their
life!!!
Helping others. You never thought of that did you? You were so concerned
about yourself, so self-centered, so busy worrying about making a fortune, that
it never occurred to you to lift a hand for others. You were the one who needed
help, who cares about the others! Let them wander around like lost souls, you
have to worry about your own well-being, have to help yourself not them. Well,
have you heard of the expression “help yourself by helping others?”
There is no better profession in life than one where you help others.
Nothing brings more satisfaction than solving someone’s problems and bringing a
smile on that person’s face. It’s a joy that no money can buy. So, come on, go
out there and do something useful for others. Anyone can do it. You don’t need
any particular talent. All you need is the willingness and desire to do
something helpful for needy people. Try it and you will see what I mean. You
identified your purpose. The rest will fall into place on its own.
