They say
‘‘beauty is only skin deep’’ and that you should ‘‘never judge a book by its
cover’’….. but looks do matter.
Presentation is important. Especially
nowadays, when there is so much superficiality in the world. Just turn on the
T.V. or flip through magazines; ever notice those ‘‘Best dressed’’ or ‘‘Worst
dressed’’ celebrity lists? Let’s not even get into the online world. Personally,
I’m subscribed to numerous blogs so every time I log into my e-mail, I receive
new posts about ‘‘How to hide dark circles under your eyes’’ and ‘‘How to lose
ten kilos in 4 days’’ and ‘‘A groundbreaking lipstick that will instantly give
you pouty, Kylie Jenner lips!’’
Even though I don’t actually take all the silly (and dangerous) advice, I receive, why am I subscribed to these blogs? Because there’s always room for self-improvement.

Going under
the knife to ‘‘fix’’ everything you dislike about yourself is going to another
extreme but there are other ways to improve your self-image.
First of all, you have to embrace your flaws (if you have any!). Your imperfections are what make you unique and they could actually become your trademark! Then, highlight the characteristics that you love about yourself. Everyone has their strong points. It could be your eyes, your hair, your smile, your hands or your voice! Remember that confidence instantly boosts your self-image.

Whether
you’re an entrepreneur, a teacher, a cook or a brand, first impressions are
very important. This is why you should dress professionally (according to your
profession of course), smile and talk or write with poise. No client or person
you meet will be very impressed if you’re wearing a dirty, old t-shirt, an
angry face and if you mumble your words. Stand straight, firmly shake a
person’s hand and look into his/her eyes. Don’t forget to be polite! In a world
full of bad manners, politeness is very attractive and makes a good impression.
If you need
more guidance on how to improve your communication/PR skills, you can always
attend useful seminars/courses or hire a success coach. Nowadays, there are
coaches for everything; there are personal stylists, look makers, coaches for
how to walk, talk and breathe! This is how you can reach your human potential,
which is what everybody seeks.
If you have
a website or online business, you can always improve your virtual self-image
too, which is just as important in this technological age.
If you have a product or service to promote, invest in an eye-catching logo for your brand. Display professional photographs that are colorful and/or bright. Dark and gloomy pictures are not appealing. Make sure the grammar and spelling on your site is impeccable. This seems obvious but you’d be surprised how many people belittle the importance of correct grammar. Last but not least, be original. Display a unique photo, a unique logo, a unique slogan and unique contents. Being different from the rest is a way to surely improve your self-image, to stick to people’s minds and to make an impact.
