CONTENT: WHAT'S LEFT TO WRITE?

Remember how easy it was to be creative and original in the olden days (by “olden”, I mean the time before the internet)? It seems so very long ago. It used to be that we just invented something new and people wowed “Oh, how creative!” We did something dangerous and everyone would be astonished! We wrote something unique and we were considered best-selling authors! Try doing that now.

First of all, you will have a hard time inventing, doing or writing something original. If by chance you do find something you think is original, look it up on Google before jumping for joy. You bet your bottom dollar, it’s been done before!

It may be that before the internet, even earlier, many original ideas overlapped but at least no one knew. Supposed someone invented a new generation umbrella in New Zealand and someone else in Greenland also did, we can easily assume that they didn’t know about it and neither did anybody else. The word might have spread but it’s an unlike probability, as travel was slow, snail mail was the order of the day, globalization wasn’t even in the making yet! Consider that in the fifties and the sixties, several Italian singers copied American songs and Italians thought they were Italian songs i.e. “Pregherò” (Stand By Me); “Stai Lontana da me” (Tower of Strength) and many, many more. To this day, some Italian people swear these songs are Italian. Yes, they are sung in Italian but they  are originally American songs. Plagiarize a song today and see how quickly you’ll be sued!

If you write content, blog posts or articles, you are in deep trouble today. Where are you going to find original ideas when everything has practically already been written about? Every time you come up with a thought, you go do a search on Google and your heart sinks. There is your idea in black and white, explained better than you would have done; not only is it there but it’s been written about by many people, each writer giving it his own twist. It’s very frustrating and it makes life very difficult. You’re writing for a living, you’re a pretty good writer, but what good is it if you have nothing to write about?

One consolation is that you’re not the only one struggling to find something to say that hasn’t been said before. Think of the millions of bloggers on the web and all the new bloggers joining every day; think of the companies who are now doing marketing on the web and who have to struggle not only with new technology but  even with content writing. Their content must be unique otherwise how do they distinguish themselves from their competitors? These companies, new on the web, should definitely turn to a SEO agency who will provide them with content written by their so-called copywriters. They are in charge of writing original, unique content which will easily slide through Copyscape, the Big Cat who makes sure the little mouse doesn’t steal the cheese.
