The Italian Way

Italians usually have an espresso or a cappuccino with a croissant for breakfast. Not really very healthy, but nowadays things are changing. Their breakfast is more consistent and varied.

Today's breakfast consists of Tarallucci cookies, Orzoro, which is a barley drink, similar to coffee but without caffeine, a banana and cottage cheese with wholewheat crackers. You can spot a real espresso of course. Breakfast isn't breakfast without a cup of coffee.

Pizza Bianca .... a Roman treat.

In Italy we often eat Pizza Bianca (White Pizza, a traditional kind of pizza from Rome) split in half and filled with delicious, creamy Nutella. It's mostly given to children for breakfast or as a school snack. For a healthy drink, I serve a  Stawberry Yogurt smoothie...with a bit of grated chocolate on top, to make it more palatable.

For a different version, you can add a banana to the strawberry smoothie, so that you get your two servings of fruit a day, out of 5.
