Why Attend
Live Events?
Let me start
by asking you a question. If you had the choice (and the money) which would you
prefer: to listen to Taylor Swift on Youtube or to see her live in concert?
I think the
answer is pretty obvious, most people will answer that they would like to see
her live in concert.
You probably gave the same answer.
You probably gave the same answer.
Why this
preference? I would say that one reason is that man is a social animal and
cannot live alone, remember the famous “no man is an island?”. We’re getting a
bit philosophical here but if you think about it, it’s a bit lonely watching a
Youtube video in your room or studio when you have the possibility of seeing the artist in
person. Just imagine: the lights, the screaming, the live gaffes and falls off the stage, the loud music, the
dancing…nothing beats the excitement of a live performance. You get carried
away by the crowd, people who share the same passion for the artist as you do.
You feel close to them (squashed is the word actually), and you might even make
new friends, with whom you can meet up later or keep in touch.
The same
reasoning applies to live business meetings or conference. Watching a Webinar
or “live” video is not the same as actually “being there”. If you’re watching
it from the office, you might get phone calls, or the boss asks to see you
immediately. These interruptions will make you lose track of what is going on.
Worse, you might fall asleep from sheer boredom.
As interesting as the presentation may be, it’s no fun watching it alone, not having anyone to discuss it with; not being able to make comments. Sounds rather gloomy doesn’t it?

If you’re
attending the live conference in person it’s totally a different story. There
may be boring moments but you can stay awake by looking at other participants
who look bored out of their mind but try hard to look awake and interested.
Misery loves company.
