Start a blog and start earning

How to start a blog and become rich. Well ....maybe.

To become a successful blogger and make lots of money is everybody’s dream. Just take a look at blogger and wordpress, you will find millions of bloggers. You’d think the whole world is blogging! It might just be.

Search “food” and you’ll find that everyone is a cook; search “fashion” and you see thousands of fashion models or fashion experts; search “beauty” and endless beauty experts show up. Just look up your favorite interest and you’ll find people blogging about it. Some people are doing it as a hobby but most people are either earning from their blog or hoping to earn from their blog. Business companies definitely earn, in fact their hire SEO agencies or SEO consultants to run their blog so that they get more traffic, hoping to convert that traffic into lead. Blogging for marketing is a very common and popular practice these days.

If you don’t have a blog, it’s something extraordinary. Either you think you have nothing to blog about or you think starting a blog is technically challenging. Not at all. You don’t need to be a web genius to start a blog.

The simplest way is to go to blogger and follow the instructions. Make sure you choose a name which is appropriate to the subject which you will be blogging about. Although it doesn’t necessarily have to be related (look at the BlondeSalad, her blog is not exactly about salads).

If you are undecided about your blogging subject, just use a name that will cover anything. Like your name or your cat’s name.

Once you’re finished with the technical side of creating your blog, you can start posting. The first post can be a simple introduction (who you are, what you like to do, what your blog is about etc.). Preferably accompanied by pictures. Visual posts are more likely to be popular and shared than plain written posts. An ideal post is a combination of the two.

You published your post but no one saw it. No likes, no comments, no shares. It’s very disappointing but don’t give up. Everyone goes through it. You don’t get rich quick by blogging. You need to work at it.

By the way, when you opened your blog, I hope you applied for Adsense. This is the way to make money through a blog. The more visitors you have and the more people click on the ads on your blog, the more money you make. Don’t expect overnight success. You need to start networking with other bloggers; advertising your blog on Twitter and other social networks; telling your friends and colleagues that you have a blog. It’s a lot of effort but if you stick to it, it’s well worth the hard work.

One very important thing to take into consideration when you write a post, is to make sure what you’re saying is useful and important. Don’t just write that you got up, had a coffee and went to the supermarket. Nobody is interested in a boring routine. If you want to attract visitors and get them to come back then write awesome, attention grabbing content.

So...start blogging!

Content: is there anything left to write?

Remember how easy it was to be creative and original in the olden days (by “olden”, I mean the time before the internet)? It seems so very long ago. It used to be that we just invented something new and people wowed “Oh, how creative!” We did something dangerous and everyone would be astonished! We wrote something unique and we were considered best-selling authors! Try doing that now.

First of all, you will have a hard time inventing, doing or writing something original. If by chance you do find something you think is original, look it up on Google before jumping for joy. You bet your bottom dollar, it’s been done before!

It may be that before the internet, even earlier, many original ideas overlapped but at least no one knew. Supposed someone invented a new generation umbrella in New Zealand and someone else in Greenland also did, we can easily assume that they didn’t know about it and neither did anybody else. The word might have spread but it’s an unlike probability, as travel was slow, snail mail was the order of the day, globalization wasn’t even in the making yet! Consider that in the fifties and the sixties, several Italian singers copied American songs and Italians thought they were Italian songs i.e. “Pregherò” (Stand By Me); “Stai Lontana da me” (Tower of Strength) and many, many more. To this day, some Italian people swear these songs are Italian. Yes, they are sung in Italian but they  are originally American songs. Plagiarize a song today and see how quickly you’ll be sued!

If you write content, blog posts or articles, you are in deep trouble today. Where are you going to find original ideas when everything has practically already been written about? Every time you come up with a thought, you go do a search on Google and your heart sinks. There is your idea in black and white, explained better than you would have done; not only is it there but it’s been written about by many people, each writer giving it his own twist. It’s very frustrating and it makes life very difficult. You’re writing for a living, you’re a pretty good writer, but what good is it if you have nothing to write about?

One consolation is that you’re not the only one struggling to find something to say that hasn’t been said before. Think of the millions of bloggers on the web and all the new bloggers joining every day; think of the companies who are now doing marketing on the web and who have to struggle not only with new technology but  even with content writing. Their content must be unique otherwise how do they distinguish themselves from their competitors?

These companies, new on the web, should definitely turn to a SEO agency who will provide them with content written by their so-called copywriters. They are in charge of writing original, unique content which will easily slide through Copyscape, the Big Cat who makes sure the little mouse doesn’t steal the cheese.
