A taste of Japan 3 ..... Ginger Pork

This is a recipe which was broadcast by a Japanese cook on JSTV many years ago. It is an original recipe, different from the traditional ginger pork.

Slice pork very thinly and flour it. Slice onions thinly (3 or 4 onions). For the sauce, mix 1 cup water,  4 Tablespoons soy sauce, one grated apple, 2 Tablespoons brown sugar and 1 teaspoon grated ginger.

Fry the floured pork slices in a hot pan, turn over and add onions. After two minutes add the sauce and cook till sauce thickens.

Serve over hot rice.

Japanese rolls .... A Taste of Japan 2

These rolls are soft and light as a feather.

Mix 30 g sugar, 40 g butter, 1 teaspoon salt, add one egg. Then add 260 ml warm milk, 400 g strong flour and 2 teaspoons dried yeast. Knead for 10 minutes, then leave to rise for about 1 hour.

When the dough has doubled take pieces of the dough and shape as you like. Let the rolls rise for 30 minutes. In the meantime preheat the oven to 200° C. Bake the rolls for about 10-12 minutes.

Doraemon's Favorite Food

These Japanese pancakes are Doraemon's favorite food. They are simple to make. The difference with pancakes is that in the batter one of the ingredients is honey. You also need to get AN, which is a sweet paste made of Azuki beans.
